The future of Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak has unexpectedly taken a surprising turn.
During the current transfer window, Newcastle’s Isak has been frequently associated with a transfer to Premier League champions Liverpool.Arne Slot is said to consider the Sweden international as his ideal acquisition, with recent reports indicating that the Reds are prepared to offer a world-record fee exceeding £120 million for his signature.
Despite the substantial financial proposal, Newcastle seem to have maintained their position and are resolute in their decision not to sell their star player this summer. However, the situation has now taken an unexpected turn, as another club has emerged in the competition for Isak, and they are also ready to present a significant financial offer to finalize a deal.
According to Sky Sports reporter Gianluca Di Marzio, Saudi Pro League team Al Hilal is now considering a move for Isak as they aim to enhance their attack for the upcoming season.
Manager Simone Inzaghi is reportedly a strong admirer of Isak, with Al Hilal willing to present a substantial financial package to persuade both the club and the player to finalize a deal. Although both Newcastle and Al Hilal are under the ownership of the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund, it is not anticipated that this would create any potential issues regarding a transfer if it were to proceed.
However, this does not imply that the Magpies are inclined to sell Isak to their sister club, as the situation with Liverpool has made it abundantly clear that they are not intending to part with him this summer.
Given the increasing likelihood that Isak will continue as a Newcastle player for the upcoming season, Liverpool is shifting its focus to other targets, specifically preparing an offer for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike. The 23-year-old has attracted interest from multiple clubs across Europe this summer, including Newcastle and Manchester United; however, it is reported that he has chosen to sign with Liverpool.
Although Liverpool has not yet submitted a formal offer, Sky’s Florian Plettenberg recently indicated that the club is prepared to exceed the £70 million bid that Newcastle had rejected earlier this summer.
