Liverpool winger Federico Chiesa has not dismissed the possibility of leaving Anfield this summer, merely a year after his transfer to the Reds from Juventus.
Chiesa was released by the Bianconeri following the appointment of Thiago Motta as head coach, subsequently making a move to Liverpool in a cost-effective deal.
However, the Italian faced significant fitness challenges during his inaugural season on Merseyside and was unable to secure a regular position within Arne Slot’s Premier League-winning squad.
By the conclusion of the 2024–25 season, Chiesa had accumulated only 466 minutes of play across all competitions.
The 27-year-old made 14 appearances and contributed to four goals.
Although he finished the season as a champion, it was a forgettable experience for Chiesa personally, as he continued to struggle following the long-term knee injury he suffered in 2022.
The winger was once again plagued by persistent issues, a recurring theme throughout his career over the last three years, leading to speculation about his potential departure.
When questioned by Gazzetta dello Sport regarding a possible summer exit, Chiesa replied: “It will be a topic to address in the summer.
My agent, my family, and I maintain an excellent relationship with Liverpool.
“The objective is to be prepared for the training camp; we will seek the best solution for all parties involved.
”Despite being sidelined by Motta, who was dismissed by Juve well before the end of his first year in charge, Chiesa remarked “never say never” when asked about a potential return to Turin.
The Italy international had flourished into one of the world’s premier wingers during his time with the Old Lady prior to his severe knee injury.
He also played a crucial role in the Azzurri’s triumph at Euro 2020.
Chiesa may no longer exhibit the vibrant and dynamic performance he once did, but there remains ample opportunity for recovery.
It appears improbable that fans will witness his peak form at Liverpool, and a return to Italy must undoubtedly be appealing.
