One Premier League team has allegedly withdrawn from the competition to acquire Real Madrid star Rodrygo. Rodrygo, aged 24, developed through the youth academy at the Brazilian club Santos before making a mark at the Spanish La Liga club Madrid. In 2019, the Brazilian transitioned to Spain and has since netted 68 goals in 270 appearances for Los Blancos.
Recently, Rodrygo has been associated with a potential departure from the Bernabeu, having fallen down the hierarchy established by new manager Xabi Alonso. To date, clubs such as Arsenal, Liverpool, and Chelsea have expressed interest in the 24-year-old.
In the recent FIFA Club World Cup, Rodrygo participated in the initial match against Al Hilal but was subsequently benched by Alonso. Last month, journalist Ben Jacobs disclosed that Arsenal is sincerely interested in Rodrygo.
He stated: “Arsenal has a genuine interest in Rodrygo and has engaged in preliminary discussions with the player’s representatives since May. It is understood that Real Madrid is seeking approximately €90 million.
Meanwhile, journalist Matt Law has recently indicated that Chelsea is unlikely to pursue Rodrygo due to his salary demands.
He mentioned on the London Is Blue podcast: “I never really viewed the Rodrygo situation as feasible. He commands substantial wages and is seeking even higher compensation to transfer.”
There is considerable apprehension among European clubs regarding the financial commitment required to acquire Rodrygo. If the situation does not work out… we have discussed Chelsea’s ability to sell effectively, given their wage structure. Law further elaborated: “If Rodrygo’s transfer fails, it presents a significant issue. Chelsea is already facing challenges with [Raheem] Sterling this summer.
“This approach does not align with Chelsea’s successful strategies, and I do not foresee Rodrygo joining the club, nor have I ever.”
Thus far this summer, Chelsea has secured the signings of Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, Estevao, Dario Essugo, Mamadou Sarr, and Kendry Paez.
