Atlético Madrid’s president, Enrique Cerezo, has firmly dismissed any transfer rumors suggesting that Julián Alvarez might leave this summer.
The Argentine World Cup champion only transferred to Atlético last summer, departing from Manchester City in a substantial deal valued at £81.5 million ($110 million).
Alvarez had a remarkable debut season, scoring an impressive 29 goals in all competitions while demonstrating the relentless work ethic that Diego Simeone expects.
His outstanding performance attracted interest from several Premier League clubs, with Arsenal identified as the “strongest bidder,” although Liverpool has also frequently been associated with the 25-year-old.
President Cerezo was eager to extinguish these speculative rumors before they escalated. “Julián Alvarez is an Atlético de Madrid player and will remain an Atlético de Madrid player,” he stated to MARCA during the unveiling of a new restaurant in the Spanish capital.
Cerezo remarked on the broader context of the transfer window, saying, “There are many players being discussed, and the number is increasing.
” He added, “We will have to see who the selection is.
“There must always be new developments. The coaching staff is working diligently to progress and aim to construct a team as strong as the one we previously had. If not, at least as competitive as the one we had.
“Instead of selling Alvarez, Atlético may consider acquiring a new striking partner for him.
In recent days, Simeone’s team has been linked with interest in the highly sought-after striker Viktor Gyökeres.
The Sporting CP forward is widely regarded as a long-term target for Arsenal, among various other European clubs, after achieving 97 goals in 102 matches over the last two seasons.
