Mohamed Salah has cautioned Liverpool’s competitors for the Premier League title that he is already contemplating the prospect of lifting the trophy again next season.
The Reds have dominated the league for most of the season and secured their championship with a decisive 5-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur this past weekend.
During the celebrations, Salah expressed that this recent achievement felt ‘far superior’ to winning the title in the 2019/20 season under Jurgen Klopp, but he quickly shifted his attention to the goal of defending their title next season.
‘This is what we aimed to provide for our supporters above all else,’ he stated on social media.
‘This is a club that must consistently strive for excellence and remain at the pinnacle.
There are no excuses. While all teams can secure victories, ultimately, there is only one champion.
This is what history acknowledges, and it applies to the upcoming season as well.’
Fortunately for Liverpool, Salah will continue to support their title aspirations next season after signing a new two-year contract, shortly before star center-back Virgil van Dijk did the same.
The 32-year-old has netted 28 goals in the Premier League and is just two assists shy of equaling the single-season record of 20.
However, the Reds may face the challenge of losing right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is anticipated to join Real Madrid on a free transfer, although Dutch winger Cody Gakpo suggested a potential change of heart for the England international during his own title celebrations.
Arsenal is aiming to claim Liverpool’s title next season, while Manchester City is expected to re-enter the competition after a surprisingly lackluster campaign that saw them eliminated from this season’s race months ago.
Chelsea, initially viewed as Liverpool’s primary threat in December before a dismal run of form caused them to plummet down the standings, will also seek to reestablish themselves in the title race.
