Manchester United and Liverpool are reportedly monitoring Lyon midfielder Rayan Cherki as they consider a budget-friendly transfer this summer.

At just 21 years old, Cherki has already made nearly 200 appearances for Lyon and is having an outstanding season, leading many to believe he is on the verge of fulfilling the immense potential recognized during his teenage years.

This season, he has contributed to 30 goals—comprising 12 goals and 18 assists—in 39 matches across all competitions, including scoring in both legs of the Europa League quarter-final against United earlier this month.

According to The Mail, both United and Liverpool are closely observing Cherki, who is set to enter the final year of his contract and has a verbal agreement to leave Lyon for a mere £25 million this summer.

Additionally, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in the player, who nearly transferred to Borussia Dortmund last summer before opting for a 12-month contract extension that reportedly included a commitment to facilitate a sale this year.

Concerns regarding Cherki primarily focus on his on-field attitude, with some worried that his exceptional talent might not be fully realized due to perceived immaturity or a lack of work ethic.

Remarkably, almost half of his total goal contributions during his time at Lyon have occurred this season, leading his potential suitors to believe that Cherki has made significant progress necessary to thrive at a top-tier club.

While he may still pose a certain risk, the prospect of acquiring a player of Cherki’s caliber for £25 million is undeniably appealing in a market characterized by inflated prices.

For instance, United has been quoted £100 million for Southampton winger Tyler Dibling, who has only completed one full season of senior football that ended in relegation.
