Mohamed Salah was among several Liverpool players who honored Trent Alexander-Arnold on social media following the full-back’s announcement of his departure from Anfield on Monday.
After two decades, over 350 appearances, and eight significant trophies, Alexander-Arnold disclosed his intention to leave Liverpool at the end of his contract this summer.
The lifelong supporter described the decision as ‘very difficult,’ emphasizing that it was not motivated by financial considerations, and recognized that ‘the news will disappoint many, anger some, and upset others.’ Nevertheless, his teammates responded with overwhelming positivity.
Salah, who found himself in a similar situation as Alexander-Arnold, having entered the final weeks of his contract after a prolonged negotiation, opted to sign a new two-year agreement, unlike his English counterpart.
‘It has been a joy to share a special friendship and play alongside you,’ Salah expressed on X, accompanied by a series of images featuring him and his soon-to-be former teammate. ‘
I wish you all the best, and I am confident we will cross paths again.’ According to The Times, Alexander-Arnold intends to return to Anfield as a supporter whenever possible.
He stated, ‘There is no doubt I will be back—I would love to one day bring my children to Anfield and show them where I played, along with the videos and highlights of our achievements together.’
Curtis Jones and Cody Gakpo both referred to Alexander-Arnold as a ‘legend,’ while Harvey Elliott praised him as an ‘unbelievable player’ and an ‘even better person,’ adding, ‘Enjoy it, brother.
Thank you!’ Dominik Szoboszlai, who spent only two seasons with the right-back, quickly developed a close friendship, stating, ‘My boy, love you, and enjoy.’
Andy Robertson was Alexander-Arnold’s partner in crime on the opposite side of the pitch for the past eight years.
The pair boast a combined 123 Premier League assists, comfortably the most of any defender in the competition’s history. “Brother for life!!” The Scot posted. “We’ve been through it all together!”
