Chelsea’s 6 rivals named in €70m Serhou Guirassy transfer battle

Chelsea is among a select group of seven clubs prepared to activate the release clause of Borussia Dortmund’s prolific striker Serhou Guirassy this summer, according to a report from Germany.

The 29-year-old has excelled in his inaugural season at Signal Iduna Park, scoring 29 goals in 41 matches for BVB, including a recent hat-trick against Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-finals.

After a successful tenure at Stuttgart over the past two seasons, Guirassy has established a reputation for high-scoring performances, drawing interest from various clubs across Europe, particularly from Chelsea, known for their significant spending in the Premier League.

The Blues, who have previously been linked with the Guinea international, are identified as one of the few clubs capable of activating Guirassy’s release clause, estimated to be around €70 million (£60 million), following the revamped FIFA Club World Cup this summer.

However, they are not the only contenders. As reported by Sky Sport Germany journalist Patrick Berger, Chelsea is one of five Premier League teams that could trigger the clause, alongside Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City, and Manchester United, with Spanish powerhouses Barcelona and Real Madrid also in the mix.

It remains uncertain whether any of these clubs will pursue this option.

Berger has reassured Dortmund fans that Guirassy currently has ‘no plans’ to depart the club, and with his contract extending until 2028, the Bundesliga giants are under no pressure to sell their star forward.

Dortmund is reportedly ‘very pleased’ with Guirassy and considers him crucial to their ‘rebuild’ after a challenging season, as they find themselves in an unusual seventh place, needing to close a four-point gap to RB Leipzig in the race for the top four in the league.
