Manchester United has emerged as a potential contender for Eintracht Frankfurt’s striker, Hugo Ekitiké. The 22-year-old French talent had an impressive season in the Bundesliga, netting 15 goals and providing eight assists, which has put him on the radar of several top European clubs seeking to bolster their attacking options.
While Chelsea has been the focal point of much of the transfer buzz surrounding Ekitiké, Liverpool is also said to have an interest.
However, Frankfurt’s CEO Markus Krösche has made it clear that they will only entertain offers that meet their asking price of €100 million (£85.2 million, $115.8 million).
Recent reports from Sky Sports Germany indicate that United has made inquiries in the past few days regarding a possible summer transfer for Ekitiké.
After signing Matheus Cunha, who is likely to fill a midfield role in Ruben Amorim’s setup after his £62.5 million ($85 million) move from Wolverhampton Wanderers, United is on the lookout for a dedicated striker this summer.
So far, United’s most notable interest in a forward has centered on Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting CP—a player familiar to Amorim from his time at the club.
However, recent developments concerning the Swedish forward seem to have prompted the club to explore alternative options.
As for Ekitiké, he appears eager to advance his career this summer, but Frankfurt seems reluctant to rush a sale.
The young striker is locked in until 2029, having joined permanently from Paris Saint-Germain last summer for approximately €16.5 million (£14.1 million, $19.1 million).
