Liverpool has secured a deal with Bayer Leverkusen to sign midfielder Florian Wirtz, according to various reports.
Negotiations have been taking place over the last few weeks, with Liverpool making several attempts to persuade Leverkusen to lower their asking price of €150 million (£127.7 million, $173.7 million).
Despite some differences in valuation, both clubs remained optimistic that they would reach a compromise, and it’s now been confirmed that an agreement has been reached.
As reported by The Athletic, Liverpool will pay up to €136.3 million (£116.1 million, $157.8 million) to bring Wirtz to Anfield this summer.
The payment structure includes an upfront fee of €117.5 million (£100.1 million, $136.1 million), along with an additional €18.8 million (£16 million, $21.8 million) tied to performance-related incentives.
If all the bonuses kick in, Wirtz would become the most expensive signing in Premier League history, surpassing Chelsea’s £115 million ($156.4 million) deal for Moisés Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion back in 2023.
However, he is already set to break Liverpool’s existing transfer record of £85 million ($115.6 million), which was used to sign Darwin Núñez.
Wirtz has turned down interest from Bayern Munich and Manchester City and is now poised to undergo a medical as he gears up to become Liverpool’s third signing this summer.
He will join his Leverkusen teammate Jeremie Frimpong and Hungarian goalkeeper Ármin Pécsi.
Reds left-back Andy Robertson, who is also facing uncertainty about his future at Anfield with Milos Kerkez’s expected arrival from Bournemouth, has expressed his enthusiasm about playing alongside Wirtz.
