Luis Díaz continues to be a key target for Barcelona, but Hansi Flick is reportedly considering Ivan Perišić as a viable backup option for the club.
Even after securing the domestic treble in his first season, Flick is determined to enhance his Barcelona squad further this summer.
The club is looking to acquire not only a new goalkeeper and possibly another left-back but also an additional left winger.
While Díaz, instrumental in Liverpool’s success in winning the 2024–25 Premier League title, was initially the top choice for Barcelona, recent reports suggest that the Catalans are hesitant to meet his €80 million (£67.6 million, $91.4 million) release clause.
Consequently, Flick has turned his attention to Perišić.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona believes the Croatian winger could significantly “strengthen [their] presence” on the left flank.
Perišić’s experience and versatility would add much-needed depth to the attack and intensify competition within the squad.
Perišić is a familiar face for Flick, stemming from their successful stint together at Bayern Munich.
Flick guided the German club to triumph in both domestic and European competitions in 2020, with Perišić playing a pivotal role throughout that journey.
After his time at Bayern, the Croatian international had spells with Tottenham Hotspur, Hajduk Split, and most recently, PSV Eindhoven.
Remarkably, even at 36 years old, he made 35 appearances for the Dutch side in the 2024–25 season, contributing to 26 goals.
Having Perišić in the squad would offer Flick a reliable option on either the left or right wing, helping to manage Raphinha and Lamine Yamal’s playing time more effectively.
Last season, Flick leaned heavily on these two key players, and if Barcelona aims to succeed in the Champions League, they will need additional attacking depth.
Fortunately for Barcelona, who are still navigating financial challenges, Perišić’s contract with PSV is set to expire on June 30.
This means he could join Barcelona on a free transfer, removing any potential financial barriers.
If all goes to plan, Perišić is expected to be Barcelona’s second signing of the summer, following reports that the club intends to activate the €25 million ($28.5 million) release clause for Joan García from Espanyol.
