Following a season plagued by injuries and inconsistent playing time, Harvey Elliott must take time to “reflect” on his future with Liverpool.
Elliott has endured a frustrating season while wearing the red jersey.
The midfielder was sidelined for three months during the 2024–25 season due to a broken foot, and upon his return to the squad in late November, he found himself on the bench more frequently than not.
In fact, Elliott was selected to start in only two Premier League matches under Arne Slot, accumulating a total of 360 minutes during Liverpool’s title-winning campaign.
He made merely 28 appearances across all competitions throughout the season, which is nearly half the number he had during Jürgen Klopp’s final season in charge.
Currently representing England at the European Under-21 Championship this summer, Elliott has shared his thoughts regarding his position with the club and his future plans.
“This is a situation that I and the team need to discuss, as I am approaching an age where I am 22 and will turn 23 next season,” Elliott stated.
“I do not wish to squander years of my career, as it is a brief journey. The future is uncertain.”
“I need to take some time for introspection.
I must evaluate whether I am satisfied with my current endeavors and consider how I can enhance my skills as a player, as that is of utmost importance,” Elliott expressed further.”My goal is to improve and become the best version of myself.
If that means pursuing opportunities elsewhere, then I will have to make that decision, and I need to observe how things unfold.
“The 22-year-old has demonstrated moments of exceptional talent while wearing a red jersey when provided with suitable chances.
In the 2023–24 season alone, Elliott achieved 11 assists and netted four goals.
Despite experiencing inconsistent playing time under Slot, he still succeeded in scoring five goals, including Liverpool’s sole goal in the Champions League round of 16 against Paris Saint-Germain.
It is evident that Elliott aspires to take on more than just a substitute role in the future.
“There is nothing that compels me to leave.
I have a deep affection for the club, the fans, and the team. I also support them wholeheartedly.
However, the most crucial aspect is determining what is best for my career,” Elliott stated.
Elliott became a member of Liverpool in 2019 and has since secured eight trophies with the Reds, including two Premier League championships.
The midfielder’s contract with the club extends until 2027, yet his future remains uncertain.
