The transfer saga surrounding Bayer Leverkusen’s star player Florian Wirtz has taken a new turn as Liverpool strives to finalize the deal.
In recent weeks, Wirtz, aged 22, has been the center of attention as discussions about his future have become prevalent.
After turning down offers from Bayern Munich and Manchester City, Liverpool found themselves with a clear opportunity to obtain Wirtz’s signature.
Last week, reports indicated that Liverpool had submitted an offer amounting to €130 million.
David Ornstein from The Athletic stated: “Liverpool submit offer to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen worth up to €130m in total.
This is an improved second bid + figure a top-end amount – comprising fixed fee & potential add-ons. 22yo #Bayer04 playmaker keen to join #LFC @The Athletic FC.
“Nevertheless, as per a report from the German news outlet BILD, Leverkusen is holding out for a fee nearing an astonishing €150 million.
Furthermore, Wirtz’s previous club, FC Koln, may cause delays in the proceedings.
The report indicated that the club’s leader, Werner Wolf, has committed to advocating for what he believes Koln rightfully deserves.
According to FIFA regulations, clubs that have contributed to a player’s development between the ages of 12 and 23 are entitled to receive a portion of the transfer fee, specifically five percent.
Wirtz was part of Koln from the age of seven until 16, which means Koln may now be entitled to what is referred to as ‘training compensation’.
If Liverpool is prepared to meet Leverkusen’s asking price of €150 million, Koln could potentially receive €7.5 million.
As reported by BILD, Wolf stated: “Certainly, we are examining this matter.
We understand our rights and will advocate for them.
“We are considering this with full attention.
We will gain from it.
The greater the amount Liverpool is willing to offer, the more advantageous it is for us.
“With the compensation fee now reportedly part of the discussion, Leverkusen could leverage this to increase their asking price for Wirtz.
