In light of the tragic occurrences that transpired following Liverpool’s Premier League trophy parade on Monday evening, law enforcement has now verified how the driver of the vehicle implicated in the incident managed to circumvent the road closure measures that were implemented.
A recent update from the police has disclosed their belief regarding how the suspect was able to navigate through the blocked roads initially.
During a press conference held on Tuesday afternoon, it was disclosed that the rationale for the car’s presence had been determined.
Providing an update on the ongoing investigation, Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims revealed that an ambulance was on its way to respond to a heart attack when the car followed it to get past a road closure and on to Water Street. Constable Sims said:
She went on to reaffirm the earlier conclusion that the incident was not being treated as an act of terrorism: “As with many large events with event organisers, we plan for all contingencies, and this included the implementation of road closures to protect pedestrians and an armed policing presence was also in place throughout the day.
“There was no intelligence to suggest an incident of this nature would take place and, as we’ve previously stated, the incident is not being treated as terrorism.
“It has now been confirmed that the driver of the vehicle has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and drug driving.
