Liverpool has reportedly pinpointed Lyon winger Malick Fofana as a possible substitute in the event that Luis Díaz transfers to Barcelona this summer.
Díaz has been regarded as a long-term objective for the Catalan club.
Barcelona’s sporting director Deco has openly acknowledged that the newly crowned La Liga champions may “need to acquire similar players” to Lamine Yamal and Raphinha, having become “dependent” on these two prolific wingers.
Díaz serves as a natural fit for this role.Nevertheless, Liverpool is believed to be hesitant about parting with their starting forward.
The Reds have reportedly set Díaz’s price at a steep €80 million (£67.2 million; $89.3 million) to deter Barcelona’s interest.
The once financially constrained club is anticipated to finally comply with La Liga’s stringent financial regulations this summer, potentially allowing them to secure sufficient funds for such a transaction.
In that case, Arne Slot’s Premier League champions would need to find a replacement for Díaz.
