Football supporters are ridiculing Mikel Arteta following the Arsenal manager’s explanation of the two factors he believes contributed to his team’s failure to secure the Premier League title against Liverpool.
For the third consecutive season, the Gunners found themselves in a title race, yet once again, they were outperformed by their competitors.
Liverpool had an outstanding inaugural season under Arne Slot, clinching the Premier League championship for only the second time in their history.
In reality, they thoroughly dominated the league, leaving Arsenal far behind in their pursuit of the top position.
After 36 matches, Arsenal currently holds second place with 68 points, trailing their rivals by 15 points.
This marks a significant decline from the previous two seasons, during which Arteta’s squad achieved 84 and 89 points, respectively. The manager has now articulated his perspective on why he believes his team fell short.
During an appearance on Sky Sports, the Spaniard was asked whether he thought injuries played a part in his side failing to keep pace with Liverpool at the top of the table and he admitted he did.
He also credited the red cards his side received throughout the season as a major factor too.
Speaking on what cost his team, he said:”Red cards and injuries, for sure.
With that, we don’t know what would happen.
Would we be much closer [to Liverpool]? Without a question, yes.”
