Journalist Craig Hope has provided a fresh update regarding Newcastle striker Alexander Isak’s possible transfer to Liverpool.
Isak has been associated with a transfer to Anfield for a considerable part of the summer, as Arne Slot’s team is said to have made preliminary inquiries about his availability earlier this month.
The circumstances changed notably on Thursday, with The Athletic stating that the Sweden international forward had requested to depart from the club.
The news surfaced just hours after Liverpool finalized the acquisition of fellow striker Hugo Ekitike from Frankfurt.
The Reds have now invested comfortably over £200 million this summer, although some of that expenditure has been balanced by player sales – including the £10 million exit of On Sunday, BBC Sport reported that Bayern Munich had reached an agreement with Liverpool for a £65.5 million fee regarding the signing of winger Luis Diaz.
This would provide the Reds with additional financial flexibility – if it were necessary – to finalize a deal for Isak, but they will undoubtedly also consider seeking a replacement for Diaz.
However, north east football expert Hope, writing for the Daily Mail, asserts that the Magpies are now ‘prepared’ for an official bid from Liverpool for Isak.
It is noted that the Newcastle management does not want to part with their top players, although the sentiment within the Magpies’ camp is reportedly ‘divided’ on whether the club should entertain a sale or reject all offers for their star player.
