A shock club has entered the competition to acquire Alexander Isak after he informed Newcastle United of his desire to explore his options this summer.
Isak has established himself as one of the top forwards in England following his exceptionally prolific season in the Premier League last year.
He netted an impressive 23 goals in 34 league matches, having scored 21 goals in 30 league appearances in the 2023/24 season.
His future remains uncertain despite Newcastle qualifying for the Champions League, as the star forward has communicated to his club his intention to consider his options during the transfer window. Liverpool continues to show interest in signing Isak, even after investing £79 million to secure Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt.
The Reds have been long-time admirers of the 25-year-old, who remains on their radar as they approach the 2025/26 season.
However, Arne Slot’s team faces competition from domestic rivals Chelsea, who may contemplate a move, given their financial capability to finalize a deal.
According to the Independent, Chelsea ‘would require a deviation from recent targets and a shift in profile considering Isak’s age and career trajectory.
Nonetheless, as stated by Sacha Tavolieri, Isak’s ‘preferred’ destination is Liverpool.
The Saudi Pro League team Al Hilal is also involved and has established ‘direct contact’ with Newcastle.
A move to Al Hilal has been characterized as ‘difficult’, yet the Swedish player is not dismissing the possibility of a transfer to the Middle East. Chelsea has already signed two forwards this summer, having acquired Liam Delap from Ipswich Town and Joao Pedro from Brighton.
However, it seems that the Blues are monitoring Isak’s situation in anticipation of possibly making a formal offer.
