As reported by the Daily Mail, Jose Azevedo has asserted that the car was not exceeding the speed limit at the time of the accident. He stated: “I recorded it, stopped, attempted to assist, but regrettably, there was nothing I could do. I have a clear conscience. I am aware of what I experienced that night as I did not know who was inside. My condolences to the family. “[The family] have my assurance that they were not speeding. I could see the make of the car, the color of the car. I travel this road daily, Monday through Saturday, I am familiar with it, and it is worthless. “Azevedo continued: “It is a poorly lit road, and I was able to see the make and color of the car, everything distinctly. Unfortunately, that is how it concluded.” Meanwhile, the Spanish news outlet MARCA reported that another truck driver claimed to have been overtaken by Jota’s vehicle.
