Liverpool has reached an agreement to transfer CaoimhÃn Kelleher to fellow Premier League club Brentford for an initial sum of £12.5 million ($16.8 million), according to reports.
The Irish goalkeeper has served as the backup to Liverpool’s primary goalkeeper Alisson in recent years, and the recent signing of Giorgi Mamardashvili—who was acquired by the Reds last year and subsequently loaned back to Valencia—has brought Kelleher closer to leaving the club.
Kelleher was anticipated to depart Anfield prior to the start of the 2024–25 season as he became increasingly keen on securing regular first-team action, yet a transfer did not come to fruition.
Ultimately, he made an additional 20 appearances for Liverpool across all competitions.
However, his exit now seems imminent as Sky Sports reports that an agreement with Brentford has been finalized.
The transfer fee for the 26-year-old could potentially increase to £18 million ($24.2 million) contingent upon meeting certain performance-related bonuses.
Kelleher, who has been valued by Brentford for an extended period, is anticipated to have a medical examination with the west London club on Monday.
They seem poised to outpace transfer rivals West Ham United and Leeds United in securing his services.
Brentford is nearing the completion of a transfer for their current first-choice goalkeeper, Mark Flekken, who is set to join Erik ten Hag’s Bayer Leverkusen for £11 million ($14.8 million), which includes add-ons. The Dutch goalkeeper is currently waiting for approval to proceed with a medical assessment with the Bundesliga team.
Kelleher has made 67 appearances for Liverpool since his debut in the 2019–20 season, and he has accumulated several trophies during his time on Merseyside.
Winning the Premier League title last season has contributed to his total of six honors with the Reds.
