One of the most significant transactions in this summer’s transfer market thus far is Matheus Cunha’s impending £62.5 million transfer to Manchester United.
The Wolves star is expected to arrive at Old Trafford in the upcoming weeks, as the Red Devils aim to mitigate the possible exit of Alejandro Garnacho and resolve their persistent attacking challenges.
Similar to the agreement that brought Ruben Amorim to the club last November, it appears that Liverpool was also among the clubs interested in securing Cunha’s signature. With 15 goals and six assists in 33 Premier League appearances during the 2024/25 season, the Brazilian winger has demonstrated that he is a worthwhile investment, in contrast to previous signings such as Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund, who collectively contributed to only six goal involvements in the league last season.
Currently, Anfield arguably presents a more attractive option than the Theatre of Dreams, particularly following Liverpool’s 20th league title.
However, despite their advantageous position in the market, there is a reason the Reds’ management opted to withdraw from any potential deal that was gaining momentum.
According to a Daily Mail exclusive, Liverpool were genuinely considering joining in on the conversations regarding Cunha’s future, but chose to shift their focus elsewhere due to how well stocked they are in his position already.
