Liverpool supporters are under the impression that one of their players may have declined the opportunity to raise the Premier League trophy following the official ceremony on Sunday.
After the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted their celebrations for the 19th league title under Jurgen Klopp in 2020, a full Anfield witnessed Virgil van Dijk elevate the most prestigious award in English football after the 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace.
The celebration continued for Arne Slot’s squad, with numerous players, including Mo Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Alisson Becker, lifting the trophy high amidst enthusiastic applause from the Kop behind the goal.
However, some spotted that midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai was not seen lifting the trophy in front of the supporters despite it being passed around freely on the pitch.
At one point, Sky Sports cameras looked to capture a moment where Ryan Gravenberch attempted to hand over the trophy to Szoboszlai, the first Hungarian to win the Premier League.
With his medal around his neck, Szoboszlai mocked Graven berch’s red card on the final day but appeared to refuse the trophy lift – allowing Harvey Elliott to get his moment.
