Liverpool’s coach, Arne Slot, has asserted that “excuses are for teams that do not win” following Arsenal’s manager, Mikel Arteta, attributing the Gunners’ shortcomings in the Premier League title race this season to red cards and injuries.
Liverpool clinched the Premier League title with four matches remaining, having left Arsenal far behind.
However, Slot took issue with Arteta’s comments made during an interview with Sky Sports, where he stated that “red cards and injuries, for sure,” were significant factors in the Gunners’ failure to succeed.
“There are numerous excuses one could attribute to Liverpool, such as our possibly limited spending, not acquiring new players, or succeeding someone (Jürgen Klopp),” Slot remarked to BBC Sport.
“All these factors serve as excuses for teams that fail to win the league.
It is fortunate that if you possess all these excuses, you do not need to rely on them, yet you still emerge victorious.”
