Mohamed Salah had an immediate and viral response to Tottenham Hotspur’s victory over Manchester United in the Europa League final on Thursday evening.
Spurs entered the match having previously defeated United three times this season, but they surpassed themselves with a fourth win on the prestigious stage in Bilbao.
Brennan Johnson netted the sole goal in a hard-fought contest, ultimately bringing an end to Spurs’ 17-year wait for a trophy and ensuring their qualification for the upcoming season’s Champions League.
There was a feeling of pure euphoria amongst Spurs fans and players, while Ange Postecoglou was full of emotion after a difficult period was capped off with a trophy.
The Australian had repeatedly said that he always wins silverware in his second season and did so in his 100th game in charge of Spurs.
And after the full-time whistle was blown, Liverpool star Mo Salah – a scorer against Spurs in the 2019 Champions League final in Madrid – brought up that now iconic comment as he congratulated the North London outfit.
On his official X account, Salah wrote: “He did say he’d win in his second season. Congratulations!”.
Salah’s post was met by many responses by Liverpool supporters, who felt he knew exactly what he was doing.
Salah wasn’t the only Liverpool legend to weigh in on the result.
Jamie Carragher was busy on CBS Sports Golazo’s coverage alongside Micah Richards and a debuting Roy Keane, who received quite the reception.
However, Carragher still find time to poke fun at United’s disappointment.
Flipping an infamous phrase from a Sir Alex Ferguson team talk about Spurs, Carragher wrote: “Lads, it’s Man United! “The former England international had predicted Spurs to lose, claiming there was “no chance” that they win as the predicted United’s mentality and history to get them over the line.
