Liverpool is said to have completed an agreement to acquire Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong.
Trent Alexander-Arnold’s anticipated exit has left the team lacking depth at right-back; however, following the confirmation of his departure, the club promptly intensified negotiations with Frimpong.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool and Frimpong have settled on personal terms, with a five-year contract proposed for the Dutch defender.
The final step for Liverpool involved reaching out to Leverkusen to express their intention to activate Frimpong’s release clause, which is set at €35 million (£29.4 million, $39.1 million), and it is now understood that the Premier League champions have taken this action.
A medical examination is currently being arranged for Frimpong, who, if everything proceeds as planned, will have played his last match for Leverkusen on Saturday.
Liverpool reinforced their right-back position earlier in the day by tying academy graduate Conor Bradley down to a new long-term contract.
Manager Arne Slot has publicly put his faith in Bradley to help fill the void left behind by Alexander-Arnold.
It briefly appeared as though the Northern Ireland international would be the preferred replacement, but Frimpong is now set to arrive to provide further competition.
