Liverpool and Arsenal played to a 2-2 stalemate at Anfield during their Premier League encounter on Sunday afternoon.
The match commenced at a rapid pace, featuring two significant opportunities within the first ten minutes, one for each team.
Bukayo Saka had the first chance, sending a left-footed shot narrowly past the post, followed shortly by Liverpool’s Luis Diaz, who forced an excellent save from David Raya after breaking into the Arsenal penalty area.
Although Diaz should have capitalized on his opportunity, Raya’s save was commendable. In the 20th minute, Liverpool broke the deadlock, taking the lead after Arsenal was caught off guard when the ball was reintroduced into play.
Andrew Robertson delivered a well-placed cross into the box, which Cody Gakpo met with a powerful header, giving Liverpool the advantage.
Just a minute later, Liverpool extended their lead, again exploiting Arsenal’s defensive lapse.
A long pass from Mohamed Salah found Dominik Szoboszlai, who set up Diaz for an easy finish into an open net, making it 2-0 within the first 20 minutes.
Following these early goals, the first half saw little action, with Arsenal dominating possession but failing to create significant threats against Liverpool’s solid defense, led by Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate.
The first half concluded with Liverpool firmly in control at 2-0. However, just two minutes into the second half, Arsenal managed to pull a goal back, mirroring the simplicity of Liverpool’s earlier strikes, as Leandro Trossard delivered a precise cross.
Just short of 10 minutes after Arsenal completed their comeback, they were dealt a blow as the man who scored their second goal, Merino, was sent off.
The Spaniard was given a second yellow card for a pretty reckless challenge and although he got his side back into the match, he hindered them as they had to play the last 10 minutes or to with a man disadvantage.
Liverpool thought they had the match won in the 96th minute thanks to Robertson, but the goal was disallowed due to a foul in the box.
