Man Utd, Liverpool & Real Madrid learn price for centre-back target

Bayer Leverkusen is reportedly seeking a transfer fee of €60 million (£51 million) for centre-back Piero Hincapie this summer.

The 23-year-old has had another outstanding season under Xabi Alonso’s management, making over 40 appearances for the third consecutive year with Die Werkself.

The Ecuadorian international has been linked with several top European clubs due to his exceptional talent and versatility, having excelled in both centre-back and left-back positions for last season’s Bundesliga champions.

Liverpool and Manchester United have expressed interest in Hincapie following his impressive performance, while Real Madrid, who are considering Leverkusen’s manager Alonso for their own managerial position, have also been mentioned as potential suitors.

However, acquiring one of the Bundesliga’s most promising players will require a significant investment, as Florian Plettenberg has indicated that a release clause of around €60 million must be activated to secure his transfer this summer.

It has been suggested that a move for Hincapie is still a possibility, with inquiries already made, although Leverkusen is highly reluctant to part with the young defender.

Liverpool is anticipated to pursue another centre-back this summer, particularly in light of Ibrahima Konate’s contract situation, while Manchester United is in urgent need of defensive upgrades, with Hincapie having already excelled in the 3-4-2-1 formation preferred by Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford.

Additionally, Real Madrid is expected to acquire at least one central defender due to Eder Militao’s injury issues and the likely exit of David Alaba, indicating that they will initiate their defensive restructuring this summer.
